Just a small town girl living in a sports world
Radio Podcast
The radio podcast my group did was all about the journey of an athlete from high school to college. The project was supposed to be the length of 5-20 minutes, with our group hoping to get to around 15-20. The group and I chose not only to select athletes but to also find athletes with a unique twist to their college choice and experience. I interviewed Laura Hoer, a freshman on the women's cross country team at NC State. Hoer was the 2010 ACC individual champion (as a freshman), won the women's southeast region, qualified for nationals and finished 21st for All-American honors. Hoer was only the second freshman in the nation at the NCAA national meet. I interviewed Hoer about her choice to come to NC State and how the season and the school choice had been going for her. I was also in charge of finding the sound effects for our podcast. I found the introduction music and the transitional sound effects that we used between each segment. The group collectively created the voice over, which we all took part in lending our voices for as well. Along with our interviews we had voice overs that introduced our materials and each individual was responsible for creating a 30 second-1 minute commercial clip to put into our podcast. My commercial was on Fleet Feet, a local running store, in which I talked about the store's materials and location. I also used sound effects in my commercial, such as the sound of a runner on pavement, to emphasize the company.
The radio podcast group and I had a lot of fun working together and I really appreciated the ability and opportunity to work with other members on this project. It was really fun tossing ideas around and editing the material together. Overall the group was satisfied with the final product and we thought we went above the guidelines and requirements of the assignment that were necessary.
